SHADES / BLINDS

Difference between shades and blinds

Shades are a single solid window covering, typically made with fabrics, and adjustable horizontally via string pullies. Blinds are structured window coverings made up of ‘slats’ that can be tilted open or closed. Blinds are available in a wide variety of materials and can be made to adjust vertically or horizontally. There are benefits to both of these options, continue below to find out more!

 Why Choose Blinds?

There are a lot of reasons why to invest in blinds for your home. While window film is easily removable by professional installers, it’s not so convenient for the customer if they want the look of their windows to be adjustable. Here are some of the benefits of choosing blinds over window film, and why it might be a better fit for you!

Privacy Control

When you want to let the world in, or are in the mood for some seclusion, blinds are an excellent option! Having the option to tilt the slats to your exact liking is a special kind of autonomy that only blinds can provide.

Light Control

It’s 4:30pm and the unrelenting sunlight is pouring through your westward facing windows, blinding you as you try to get just a little more work done in your home office. With blinds, keeping the light out of your eyes is as easy as pulling a string! Tilt the slats to perfectly redirect the sunlight out of your eyes— all without sacrificing the ambient light that brightens your room!

Style

Traditional blinds offer a beautifully minimalistic look to your windows, but depending on the material they can change the vibe of the whole room. Wooden slats can make any room cozier with a woodsy cabin feel, or simple aluminum shades with a pop of color can make any room feel fun!

Why Choose Shades?

Shades function very similarly to blinds, but they excel in a few key areas that set it apart from the alternatives. Here are some of the benefits of shades and why they might be a good fit for your windows!

Easy to Clean

While blinds are also easy to clean, getting your duster in between each slat can be time consuming. With Shades, since most are made with fabric, just take out and shake out that dust! Or, if in need of a deeper clean, some shades can be gently washed in the washing machine. Be sure to confirm with your certified shades/blinds installer whether or not you can machine wash your new shades.

Total Blackout

For those days when you just need a few extra hours of sleep, or if you have a hobby that requires total darkness, black-out shades are the solution! Blinds get close, but light can still creep through the cracks between the slits— and window film will block all the light, but at the expense of being able to look through your window!

Aesthetic Variety

Fabric shades have endless possibilities to alter the mood of your space however you please! Have a nursery for a newborn and you want some cartoon pastel designs to diffuse the sunlight? Want to travel back in time to the classical cinema theaters of old with the iconic velvety red drapery? Maybe your secluded, romantic getaway Air BnB cabin needs some deep maroon privacy shades to tie the mood together. Shades let you set the vibe in your room— simply roll them up and tuck them away whenever you desire. Solid colors, colored patterns, printed graphics— contact us to learn more!
